Caden's Two-Year Shoot!

Caden is the son of my friend/hairstylist Samantha, and her husband, Shea. I shot his first birthday party last Summer, and was super flattered when they asked me to shoot his two-year portraits as well! Samantha and Shea - thank you so much for the opportunity to capture your sweet boy last Saturday. You have so much to be proud of in him! And plus, doesn't he make my portfolio look great? :)

Phil is a pretty cool friend from my college days. We played lots of open mic nights and acoustic sets together - and musically, he was probably one of the best supporters/encouragers I'd ever had.

He was recently back in town (after SIX years!) to play a show for us SC folks, so being in attendance was a given. It was kind of an awkward thought to be in the same room as Phil without my guitar... but to show up without my camera would've been a sin!

If you get a minute, look him up and download some of his tunes. I dare you to find a wittier lyricist. :)

Moore-Wylie Wedding at T&S Farm!

On Memorial Day, I drove out to Batesburg-Leesville to shoot an amazing wedding for what is now one of my favorite couples, ever. Tabitha and Robby, I can't say enough about your wedding. From your awesome families, to the spectacular venue, to the company you keep (all of you are the friendliest, most genuine people I have ever met in my life) y'all have so much to be proud of and thankful for. I was so honored to be a part of your big day! :)

North Greenville Grad!

A few weeks ago, my cousin Kristina asked me if I'd snap a couple of graduation photos of her wearing her cap and gown. I didn't even have to think twice! Not only is she so stunning with those beautiful blue eyes (well, I might be biased because we both have 'em - haha!) she is also so fun to be around and full of spunk. I just love her, and I am so happy for the bright future I know lies ahead for her.

Congratulations, Kristina. Now get out there and take this world by storm! :)

Beautiful Evening at Green Hill!

I grew up "right down the road" from this golf course - literally, right behind it. So when Rachel asked me how I felt about grabbing a cart on Saturday and taking her family's photos there, I (obviously) gave her an immediate "YES!"

We had a really great evening. Often, you don't know exactly what you'll get with a one-year-old. Most are really shy and reserved, but every once in a while... one like Wyatt comes around! So fun and lively! A total ray of light. Guys, thanks so much for making my evening this enjoyable. I hope you love your preview!

Savannah and Caroline had so much fun today with Miss Addison Grace, who is the daughter of Nikki, a good friend of mine since high school. The weather was perfect and the girls played so well together! Loved it. We will do it again soon, Nikki!

Amy's State House Bridal Portrait Session!

I met Amy at the SC State House back in February to get some shots of her in her beautiful wedding gown. She wanted to keep these photos a secret until after her big day (which was completely understandable) and now that the wedding has come and gone, I get to post a few! I just love these. Y'all... I had been talking about my excitement to shoot this wedding for *months*! And let me tell you, Amy and Ryan's big day did not disappoint. It went off without a single hitch! Their beautiful ceremony took place at St. Luke's Chapel, and the reception followed soon after at Charleston Yacht Club (both are right in the heart of the city). Being a Charleston bride myself, I remembered my big day so vividly as I captured theirs.

Amy and Ryan, I hope you look back at these photos and remember your wedding day with as much love as I remember mine. You have so much to be proud of in both the day itself as well as each other! Enjoy your preview! :)

Mary Kathryn and Seth!

I had such a great time at this engagement session! We spent some time strolling the streets of downtown Camden with 80+ degree temps and sunny skies. In March! Baby Colin!

This afternoon, I drove over to see my awesome friends Justin and Katie - and to snap a few photos of their new baby, sweet Colin! I know it might not seem obvious by these shots, but Colin really wasn't impressed with me or my camera... so we passed the time just enjoying the company of one another and relaxing on what was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. And somewhere in the middle of the four hours we spent telling stories and laughing, I managed to get a few great shots that I love. :) Katie and Justin, I had such a great time today. Colin is perfect!! :)

A New Year's Day Bride!

I shot Jessica's bridal portraits a few months ago here in Camden, and she was every bit as friendly and fun as she looks in these shots! I couldn't put my finger on the reason why, but something about her reminded me of the brides of yesteryear. She is just so, so classic and lovely. Her wedding was today and although it was a bit larger than the ones I feel comfortable shooting (I very graciously declined), I know she was just so stunning and that she and Andrew are happily relaxing after their much anticipated big day. CONGRATULATIONS Jess and Andrew! :)

I did a mini-shoot today for my dear friends Katie and Justin, who are expecting a baby boy (little Colin!) in February. We didn't pull out all the stops and shoot until the sun went down... but we did have a TON of laughs while we snapped a few pictures (and made some ridiculously funny memories). COLORS!

This one's for the record books! Erin and Rion made the drive from Georgia to SC for their session this evening, and I will admit: I was nervous to see that "we're bringing our dogs" actually meant "we have four dogs". Haha! However, I quickly saw that this session would not only be doable - it would be one of the most interesting and smile-filled ones I've had all year. I will never forget it! I was just responding to a few client emails and casually browsing my Facebook fan page when I thought to myself: "Wow. Kind of a lot of people know that I take pictures for a living now. I don't really feel like a closet artist anymore."

And believe it or not, I didn't feel as if I'd "arrived". I just felt grateful to even be on the map at all.

When I started this business a year and a half ago, I promised myself I would not begin by soliciting and bombarding people via email and on Facebook with requests to become fans of my work. I didn't want to drop business cards in fishbowls at Seafood Hut or shove my portfolio in people's faces at church. I didn't want an ounce of desperation lurking in the shadows of a hobby I had loved for so long. Instead, I was determined to maintain my dignity and protect that love while seeing how far it could actually go, using only word-of-mouth and referrals. I chose to ride the wave.

And at this point (a year and a half into my profession) I am clearly no big-shot. I'm not a local celebrity. I'm not a trendy Momma Blog-tographer (totally made that up) who gets paid to have my logo flash in the corner of your screen when you visit an affiliated site. I just don't fit that mold; I'm not chipper and wholesome enough for it and I don't want to be. I am, however, a life-long artist with dreams of a fairly reasonable size... and I'm pretty blessed to get to see them come true on such a regular basis.

Thank you to everyone who has made this possible by being a sweet ray of light in my life. Whether it was just a kind word you gave or if my work happens to be hanging on your living room wall, it's really all the same as far as my gratitude goes. Your support has meant everything in the world to me. :)

This particular shoot was pretty special to me. Kira and I met in the 4th grade and have been great friends for many years. So when she asked me to photograph her family two months after baby Lily's arrival, I gave an immediate (and pretty enthused) "YES"! Lily Grace is just as sweet as she looks in these photos, if not sweeter. I was amazed by her and enjoyed this session so, so much. Kira, Jeff and family, I hope you love the preview!

What a fun shoot! We spent the evening at Historic Camden, mostly on the grounds of the beautiful Kershaw-Cornwallis House. As you can see, the weather was perfect and Ashley was such a happy (and totally easy going) bride-to-be. I didn't even have to direct her, either - she was just that great of a model! The "K" Wedding at Ten Eleven Galleria!

The Ten Eleven Galleria is one of the most well-known venues Camden has ever had, probably in the city's entire history. It is also my favorite place to shoot a formal event (despite how tricky the slim-to-no lighting can be) because you can just FEEL yourself being blanketed in that history as soon as you set foot in the door. Photographing this wedding was definitely one of my favorite jobs of all time - for more reasons than being fascinated by the venue itself. What an awesome group of people. :)

I spent this evening with my sister (in law) and her future husband doing a mini-engagement session so they will have a few shots to display at their upcoming wedding this Fall. The weather was miserable, everyone was sweating, there were bugs... but by looking at them together, you'd never know anyone was short of comfortable. They are so in love and I know they'll stay that way forever. Will and Grace, enjoy your preview!

Today, I drove over to Lexington to meet with the "C" family and what a joy it was! They are exactly the kind of family that little girls dream of having when they're in elementary school, playing with dolls. A and J are the cutest couple and the perfect parents to sweet baby Kate. But instead of going on and on about how great they are (which I easily could), I will just let the pictures speak for themselves!

Today I had the privilege of doing an in-home shoot for the sweetest family in Northeast Columbia. As soon as I met them, I knew I would end up having the hardest time trying to pick out my favorite shots to post to this blog. But then again, what else can you expect with an adorable 3 month old baby boy, a beautiful big sister, gorgeous parents and a Cocker Spaniel puppy? Perfection - that's what!
